The Academy Is… - I’m Yours Tonight
And so a demo is uploaded. I think I’ve listened to it too many times to count now. I’m a big fan of the songs an artist makes, instead of the way they look. Yes, it can be a complete bonus to a band, but why do we listen to them? Because of the music they make. We don’t hear with our eyes.
The song, in my opinion, brings the band back to the Santi era of the band. (It’s interesting when you keep bands in order by way of the records they release.) Yet, the band keeps a sense of their newest release, Fast Times at Barrington High. (Let’s just talk about how I love that movie… haha) With the simple bass line, and the catchy pop-like lyrics, there is this intricacy that TAI seems to keep in all of their songs. Call me ridiculous, whatever, but I find that each one of their songs, yes EVEN the ones that they don’t write just themselves, each has a story behind it. There has to be some form of a story behind each song. People don’t just WRITE songs because they think people will listen to it, they write songs because they are getting their THOUGHTS and OPINIONS out on paper, and into music, and into people’s heads to make them think about things, least that’s my view on it.
Back to the new Demo… carrying some clever (“My good intentions can leave the hardest hearts the harshest scars you’ve ever seen”), and romantic (“Even in your dreams, I’ll pull the stars down from the heavens to fill your empty skies”) lyrics, even if they sound so incredibly simplistic, there is this point behind them that makes the song sound so much more complex then it might have meant to be.
Of course, this is coming from a person who finds it entertaining to analyze, learn, and remember lyrics, and songs for entertainment. (It’s a weird habit, I know. But it’s what I find entertaining.) Take this demo to heart, or rather, take it to your head, and figure out your own meaning behind it.
Everyone forms an opinion on a song, and this is mine. Create your own, and find your own meaning behind it. My meaning, I’ll keep to myself for now. But don’t worry, I’ll share at some point. :]
